MECHANICAL CHAIN SCREEN RAKES

Mechanical chain screen rakes

Viry mechanical screen rakes are simple and robust and are designed for cleaning the screens upstream of a hydroelectric station or water intake.

They comprise a welded frame supporting two endless chains which drive a rake via a motor-reducer unit, a drive shaft and gears.

Operation

When not in operation, the rake is immobilised in the upper position. This position is controlled by a limit switch. When started, it descends into the water to the bottom of the screen, guided by the chains, at a sufficient distance from the screen to avoid sending accumulated rubbish to the bottom of the channel. The rake rises along the screen and carries rubbish upwards. On completion of the ascent, the rake pivots and ejects rubbish onto the bridge or into a collection and removal channel. At the end of the cycle, the rake parks in the stop position.

Automatic control system

The automatic control system of our mechanical screen rakes is triggered either by an adjustable timer which determines the frequency of operation, or by a system detecting clogging of the screens.

Safety devices

All our screen rakes are fitted with a safety device which cuts off the power supply from the drive motor if the rake becomes jammed on the screen.

Rubbish removal

All Viry mechanical rakes can be fitted with an automatic rubbish removal system comprising :
  • A collection and removal channel mounted behind the rake
  • An immersed pump which is started when the screen rake starts.
